Former Pakistan skipper and a renowned commentator Ramiz Raja, on Monday, had sparked a debate after opining about two former Pakistan cricketers. The cricketer-turned-commentator had suggested senior players of the national side– Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to take retirement from international cricket.

Raja had ignited controversy after saying that their retirement would help in making way for fresh talents in the national side. After both Hafeez and Malik were slotted in the Pakistan T20 side, Raja was sceptical about their contribution to the national side at the moment. He opined that it would be better if both the seniors bid adieu to cricket in a graceful way.

“I come across both during my assignments that is why I avoid making personal comments. There is no doubt both have served Pakistan cricket well all these years. But now I think it is time they gracefully retired from the Pakistan team,” Raja had said in a video conference.

“They should leave international cricket with respect and gracefully. I think if they retire now it will help Pakistan cricket. We have a good pool of players and we must move ahead,” added Raja.

Shoaib Malik retaliated back at Raja’s comment on Twitter and took a sly dig at him saying that along with him and Hafeez, Raja should also consider retiring. “Yes @iramizraja bhai agreed. Since all 3 of us are the end of our careers let’s retire gracefully together – I’ll call and let’s plan this for 2022? @MHafeez22 #jokes,” wrote Shoaib Malik on his Twitter account.

‘Come out of your personal agenda’: Mohammad Hafeez

Hafeez has also joined the bandwagon and has tweeted an indirect comment at Raja. Hafeez, on Thursday, tweeted about the current situation in the world due to coronavirus outbreak. He urged everyone to leave their ego behind and come out of personal agendas in order to look after each other. Many fans on Twitter believed that Hafeez’s tweet was an indirect message to Ramiz Raja’s comment about his retirement.

“Whole world is suffering from ongoing Corona virus Pandemic Badly.I urge all to behave as better Human & play ur role to Help lesser fortunates.Leave ur Ego behind, forget likes & dislikes.Come out of ur Personal Agendas & look after each other for a better cause….. Plz,” tweeted ‘The Professor’ Hafeez.
