Legendary spinner Shane Warne questions the credibility of DRS: Controversy regarding Decision Review System (DRS) has again popped up in a recent incident that happened at the Second Ashes Test in Lord’s. Australian legend Shane Warne has questioned its creditability while slamming DRS and Umpire Kumar Dharmaseena’s verdict for Moeen Ali in the afternoon session of day three at Lord’s.

Champion leg spinner Shane Warner was not impressed with the decision when England’s Moeen Ali was given not out while getting trapped in front to Nathan Lyon. Believing the ball was hitting enough of leg-stump to be deemed as out and he was critical of Dharmaseena’s verdict, DRS also backed the on-field call.

Warne said, “Well for me, that’s a bad decision live,”

“That should have been out. That was going on to hit the stumps and (it was) umpire’s call.” He further added.

Moeen Ali was trapped in front pad by offie Nathan Lyon, which looked plumb from the outset, was discarded by the Sri Lankan umpire. Even when Aussie Skipper went for the review the technology showed the ball was pitched in line but just trapping the leg-stump. As umpire decision was not out, the DRS stood by it, raising questions about its integrity in the game.

The DRS is brought in to overturn the wrong decisions in the play. Warne feels it is still not relevant with technology backing the umpires. “I’ve said this a few times, we’ve got to take away what the umpire says when we’re talking about these referral decisions,” he muttered.

“If the umpire had have given that out, that’s out. You can’t see the see the same dismissal being given out or not out depending on what the umpire says. It’s a bad on-field decision and that causes inconsistency with the review process.” Warne said.
