Carribean swashbuckling batsman Lendl Simmons is all set to play for the Rajshahi Kings franchise in the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The Trinidadian opener earlier played for Khulna Titans in the previous season of BPL and will look to continue his scintillating form in the upcoming season. He is one of the prominent faces in the T20 circuit around the cricketing world with an average of over 29 and an impeccable strike rate at 115.
One of the globetrotting T20 specialists from the West Indies, Simons is exciting with the willow and has forged a successful career in the shortest format of the game for various franchises around the world including Mumbai Indians, Brisbane Heat, and Karachi Kings.
The tournament is scheduled to begin from November 4, 2017. Defending champion, Dhaka Dynamites will host the first game at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The season will conclude with the championship game, on December 23, 2017, in Mirpur, Dhaka. It will also witness the induction of a new team based in Sylhet, named Sylhet Royals.
Current state of WI team
The West Indies team is presently hosting India in a five ODIs and one T20I series. While the underlying two ODIs were played in Port of Spain, the remaining two ODIs are set to be played at the Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound before the teams finally travel to Jamaica for the fifth ODI and the lone T20I.
Though the series opener was washed off in light of rain, India conveyed an amazing all-around performance to defeat West Indies by 105 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The teams will play their third fixture on June 30.
Simmons last played for Windies in a T20I against Afghanistan at home, in the three matches his scores read 6, 17* and 15 which is certainly nowhere near his potential and the inexperienced team will expect the 32-year-old to come to party in case he is picked in the squad for the one-off T20I against India.
