'Let's see 20 overs of ABD' - Sunil Gavaskar wants AB de Villiers to open the batting for RCB
Sunil Gavaskar also said that when someone sees a Genius like AB de Villiers, they just want him to carry on.
AB de Villiers once again proved to the world why he is such an incredible talent by smashing a match-winning 42-ball 75* for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side in their encounter against the Delhi Capitals (DC). The batting behemoth also went past 5000 IPL runs on 27th April 2021.
And former Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has showered praise on the South African batting colossus. Gavaskar stated that what de Villiers does with the willow is amazing and magical.
Adding that people can walk around the earth just to see de Villiers bat, Gavaskar said that the RCB batting icon brings so much joy to people and makes their jaws drop.
“It’s amazing. It’s just magical. You can walk around the earth, just to see this man bat because he brings in so much. He gives you so much joy, he makes your jaw drop with the kind of audacity with which he plays some shots,” said Gavaskar in a chat with Star Sports.
Sunil Gavaskar terms AB de Villiers a Genius
Sunil Gavaskar further said that when someone sees a Genius like AB de Villiers, they just want him to carry on. The 71-year-old even said that he wants to see de Villiers open the batting as people can get to see the South African a lot more rather than him coming out to wield the willow in the middle overs. Gavaskar concluded by stating that he wants to see de Villiers bat for 20 overs.
“When you see a genius like that, you want to go and just watch him carry on. You want to say to the opposition – ‘Listen, why don’t you send him to open the batting because we can get to see more of him rather than him coming in the 10th or the 11th over. Let’s see 20 overs of ABD’, that’s what I, as a former batsman, always say when I see AB de Villiers in this kind of form,” concluded Gavaskar.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side will play their next IPL match on 30th April 2021 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
