Liam Plunkett feels Ashes defeat will have no bearing on the ODI series

England may have lost the Ashes 4-0 but there’s still hope left for them in the upcoming One Day International series. They would be looking forward to making a comeback in the limited overs series after a horrid Test tour.

The first One Day International is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the MCG. Liam Plunkett admitted that the hosts were on a high after the Ashes triumph. However, he indicated that this was a different squad and would be high on energy levels.

He stated that Ashes defeat wouldn’t have any effect on the ODI series. Since many players from the ODI squad weren’t a part of the Ashes, the 32-year-old feels there wouldn’t be any pressure at all. He further looked forward to England doing well down under.

Winning against Australia in Australia is pretty big

“Australia are a good team and they’re confident from the Ashes. But it is a different squad and a different unit here. A lot of our guys didn’t play in the Ashes, so we’re full of energy and full of beans,” he said.

English players Jos Buttler, David Wiley and Jason Roy have been part of the ongoing Big Bash League. Plunkett acknowledged the same and instilled confidence in the current lot ahead of the first game.

“Some of the guys have been out here playing in the Big Bash, lads have been all over the world playing, so we’re full of confidence and looking forward to that first game,” Plunkett added.

The lanky pacer from Yorkshire remarked that defeating Australia in Australia was going to be a significant challenge for the visitors. He mentioned that England were going to leave no stone unturned in making it happen.

“It’s a massive challenge against one of the best teams in the world. We’re looking forward to doing battle with them and trying to take this series. It’s always a test when you come to somebody else’s backyard. To get a win out here is pretty big,” he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
