'Life can be unpredictable' - Indian cricket fraternity shocked after Avi Barot's sudden demise
Avi Barot died due to a cardiac arrest at the age of just 29.
The morning of October 16, 2021, was a sad one for Indian cricket. Saurashtra player Avi Barot, who is also a former U19 captain passed away at the age of just 29 years. His sudden demise left a lot of people sad, given how talented he was and had a career and life ahead of him. The cricketer died due to a cardiac arrest which happened on Friday, October 15.
The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jay Shah expressed his feeling about the sudden demise of the young cricket. Apart from playing for Saurashtra, Barot has also represented Gujarat and Haryana. On Friday, he was taken to the hospital after he complained of feeling unwell at his home in Ahmedabad.
He took his last breath inside the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He has been survived by his mother and wife, who is four months pregnant with the couple’s first child. Speaking of the sad demise of the cricketer, Jay Shah wrote on Twitter, “Extremely shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Avi Barot. A bright young cricketer, who represented India U19, Saurashtra, and Haryana has left us all too early. Condolences to his family and friends in this hour of grief.”

Former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Wasim Jaffer also came ahead in sharing their deep condolences for the family on Twitter. Jaffer wrote, “Deeply saddened to know that Avi Barot is no more. A cardiac arrest at the age of 29.. devastating. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I hope they find the strength to cope with this irreparable loss.”
Yuvraj too had some words for the family of Barot. The right-handed batter also had the ability to bowl off-spin. He was an integral part of the Saurashtra Cricket Team in winning their maiden Ranji Trophy in 2019-20. Speaking about the talented cricketer, Yuvraj wrote, “Really shocked to hear of the young Avi Barot passing away. Life can be unpredictable and unfair! I pray for the strength of his family and loved ones to deal with this irreplaceable loss Om Shanti”
Barot played 38 first-class matches along with 38 list A and 20 T20 matches. He also had a good Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this year, scoring his maiden century.
