The Indian Premier League usually regarded as a paradise for the batsmen, but the bowlers have also produced some memories one would never like to forget. Of these, hat-tricks are exceptional performances with skill, accuracy, and a capacity to change games.
Since its launch in 2008, the IPL has seen 22 hat-tricks, which goes to show that bowlers can also excel even in a power-hitter-dominated format. The first hat-trick in the history of the IPL was achieved by Lakshmipathy Balaji playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008. His feat was in the last over, and it was a historic one.
Amit Mishra has the most IPL hat-tricks, which he has claimed three times:
- 2008 – against Deccan Chargers
- 2009 – against Kings XI Punjab
- 2013 – against Pune Warriors India
Excluding Mishra, Yuvraj Singh is the only bowler with more than one IPL hat-tricks, impressively recording two in 2009 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Deccan Chargers.
The most recent IPL hat-trick was recorded in 2023 when Rashid Khan sent back three Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter on successive deliveries.
Even though it is a high-scoring league, the IPL is still seeing bowlers create history by taking match-winning games.
