Cricket has been one of the most affected sports due to the coronavirus pandemic. Every international and domestic fixtures have been called off as a precautionary measure. As things stand, cricket stands still at the moment. What is even more scary and worrying is that the pandemic could possibly last for several months. In such a scenario, the resumption of cricket is next to impossible. The way things are panning out, one cannot do anything except praying and hoping for the best. So as the cricketing world desperately awaits the resumption of the game, we are taking a look at the international fixtures that will be affected by the pandemic. The tournament started soon after the 50-over World Cup ended. According to its format, the top nine Test-playing countries are participating in it. The competition will come to an end with a final between the top two teams on the table in June 2021 at Lord’s. A maximum of 120 points per series are at stake with each team playing six series – three at home and three away – in the period. But as things stand, it looks highly unlikely that all the teams will be able to play their six series before June 2021. The following series are likely to be affected in case no cricket is played in 2020: March: Sri Lanka v England – two Tests (Already postponed) June: England v West Indies – three Tests July-August: England v Pakistan – three Tests July: West Indies v South Africa – two Tests July: Bangladesh v Sri Lanka – three Tests August: Bangladesh v New Zealand – two Tests November-December: New Zealand v West Indies – three Tests December-January (2021): Australia v India – four Tests December-January (2021): New Zealand v Pakistan – two Tests ODI League India. The competition would serve as a qualification tournament for the 2023 men’s World Cup, to be played in India. There would be 13 teams, including the 12 Test-playing countries along with the Netherlands, that play eight series over a two-year cycle on a home-and-away basis against mutually agreed opponents. The ICC is yet to finalise the playing conditions for the league, which it is scheduled to do during the upcoming ICC Board meetings, scheduled over teleconference later this month. India will gain an automatic qualification for the competition for being the hosts and along with them, seven next-highest-ranked sides in the league as on March 31, 2022 will qualify directly too. The continental championship was set to be played in September with 6 best teams from Asia participating in it. It would have served as a preparatory tournament for October’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The six participating teams are India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Recently, Cricket Australia and ICC insisted that the tournament is set to be held as scheduled. However, they would have little option if the pandemic situation does not improve. A total of 16 teams are set to be participating in the much-awaited tournament. Before the main event, a total of eight teams will play a qualifying stage. Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Namibia, Scotland and Oman, who made the cut for the tournament after finishing in the top six of the qualifiers, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will contest in the qualifying stage of the T20 World Cup. The top four from that will progress to join the top-eight teams to contest in the Super12s stage, where the teams have been split into two groups. A total of eight teams are participating in the tournament. The championship is the pathway through which the top four teams on the points table qualify for the 2021 Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be played between February 6 and March 7 in New Zealand. New Zealand qualify directly as hosts. The remaining three slots will be filled after a qualifier, which is scheduled for July in Sri Lanka. Australia, England and South Africa have already booked their berths for the main event. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies are the other teams in the fray.
