Afridi is the youngest player to receive the player of the match award in the ODIs as his 37-ball ton fetched him the first such award in this format at the age of 16 years and 217 days. A change in his age would see Afghanistan’s Mujeeb ur Rahman hold the record as the off-spinner was 16 years and 252 days old when he picked up a 4-wicket haul on ODI debut and won the POTM award.

Having said that, the ton was special for everyone in those days. With the emergence of T20 cricket, the feat is possible every now and then, but in the 1990s, a 37-ball ton was like a humongous achievement and no wonder that knock gave all the fame to the cricketer.
