Virat Kohli scored his first century of 2019 in the crucial second ODI against Australia to level the three-match ODI series. The Indian captain stepped up in the do-or-die game at his favourite ground, the Adelaide Oval. In the 299-run chase, Kohli put on fifty-run stands with Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th wickets respectively. He scored 104 off 112 deliveries with five fours and two sixes.

All the major stats and records that Virat Kohli created with his 39th ODI century:

1 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score an ODI century in Australia. Previous highest ODI score by an Indian at the helm in Australia is 93 each by Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar which they scored against the home team in 1992 Brisbane ODI and against Pakistan in the 2000 Hobart ODI respectively.


5 – Number of hundreds by Virat in International cricket at the Adelaide Oval. He is only the 2nd visiting player to score as many centuries at a venue in Australia. England’s Sir Jack Hobbs also scored five tons at the MCG.


6 – Australia is the 6th country where Kohli scored an ODI century against the home team as captain. He has done it against the hosts in Zimbabwe, Windies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa as well. No other captain has a three-figure score in ODI format against the home team in more than four countries.


7 – Virat Kohli now has scored an ODI century in seven different countries as captain; the joint-most by any player. Sanath Jayasuriya and AB de Villiers also have scored ODI centuries in seven different nations as captains.


9 – Kohli’s nine centuries in Australia against them are the joint most for any player. He is currently levelled with England’s Sir Jack Hobbs who also scored nine tons against the Aussies in their own den.

The Indian captain has three ODI centuries against Australia in Australia. Rohit Sharma (4) and Viv Richards (3) are the other players to achieve the similar feat.


10 – Number of ODI centuries as captain for Kohli outside India; the 2nd most by any player away from home. Ricky Ponting has 12 tons outside Australia while Sourav Ganguly has 9 ODI tons as Indian captain outside India.


20 – Kohli has 20 centuries as captain in International cricket outside India; the joint most for any player. Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting also have the same number of tons away from home while leading the team.


22 – This was Kohli’s 22nd ODI century away from home; the 2nd most by any player. Sachin Tendulkar had scored 29 tons outside India in ODI format. Kohli went past Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya who have 21 centuries apiece away from home in the 50-over format.


64 – Number of centuries for Virat in International cricket; the 3rd most for any player. Only Sachin Tendulkar (100) and Ricky Ponting (71) scored more International tons than him. The Indian skipper went past Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of 63.
