England has slowly built a limited overs team which can create fear in the minds of the opposition, especially when they are playing on their home soil. It has a bunch of crunch-hitters who can knock off big totals and a versatile bowling attack that has the capability of defending even mediocre targets.

But, their reputation of being a dominant limited overs team shot up steeply after their record-breaking performance against Pakistan. After winning the first two matches, it was a sort of series decider for them. And, they took the importance of the match a bit too seriously and gave the Men in Green no chance to even understand what was happening.

Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler propelled England to the Highest Team total in ODIs and the 3rd highest List A total. Hales’s magnificent century set the platform for the big total. His 171 is the highest individual total ever made by an Englishman. The previous best was held by Bill Athey for 23 years. Hales’ century is also the 2nd highest individual score against Pakistan in ODIs. The highest is 183 by Virat Kohli at Dhaka in 2012. His 248 runs stand for the 3rd wicket with Joe Root was the highest ODI partnership at Trent Bridge. England’s first innings was studded with 16 sixes – the most by them in an ODI.

Jos Buttler also registered the fastest fifty for England. He did so in just 22 balls. For Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz, it was a highly disappointing day for him. The left-arm fast bowler was pasted for 110 runs during his 10 overs spell last night. This was the 2nd most runs splurged by a bowler in an ODI. Mohammad Amir surprised one and all with his stroke-making scoring 58 after coming to bat at No.11. This was the highest by any number. 11
