Liton Das can be a destroyer in the World Cup, opines Mashrafe Mortaza

It’s always the right lift up to one’s confidence when their captain believes in that person and so is the case with Bangladesh opening batsman Liton Das. The 24-year-old got the right kind of boost right ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup as his captain Mashrafe Mortaza was all praises for him. The ODI skipper of the Bangladesh team believes that Liton can prove to be a destructive batsman for Bangladesh in the mega event.

Liton Das has established himself as an able limited-overs batsman and it is clear that he has the potential to be the perfect opening partner for Tamim Iqbal, consolidating the batting lineup at the top. And not just Mashrafe but many believe in the same after having seen Liton evolving as a batsman since the Asia Cup 2018. 

Liton, who scored 27 runs from 38 balls on his return to Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on Monday, had an unforgettable start to his career until 2018 when he finally started showing signs of a complete batsman. He played the best innings of his life in the Asia Cup final last year as he converted his maiden half-century in One-Day internationals into a brilliant hundred. Then a 23-year-old, he produced the best ODI innings of his life against one of the best teams in the world, and under pressure. 

Mortaza heaps praise on Liton Das

“We may have seen the nature of Liton during certain matches in later past. I can refer to the Asia Cup last where he hit a ton. I figure he can be a destroyer in the World Cup. He has that capacity. Our batting coach has been working with him for quite a while now,” captain Mashrafe was quoted saying by BDCrictime, in Dhaka.

While Liton has shown signs of being a destructive batsman, the only concern is his consistency. “The most essential thing is consistency. On the off chance that he can play his regular game, it’ll be a major favorable position for us in the World Cup,” Mashrafe concluded.
