Preview
Auckland Aces will lock horns with Otago Volts in the 4th match of the Ford Trophy 2023 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on November 29. Both these teams have played one match each so far in the tournament, where Otago Volts were the winner in their game and secured second position in the rankings, while Auckland Aces lost it and are in fifth place.
Both these teams squared off against each other in their last encounter, which was played at the Queen's Park in Invercargill, where Auckland Aces won the toss and elected to bowl. Volts made a brilliant start as they had an opening stand of 80 runs in 14 overs. They lost two more wickets after that in scoring the next 40 runs, but that was followed by a brilliant partnership worth 128 runs. Dale Phillips made a beautiful century, which helped the team reach a huge total of 302 runs at the loss of six wickets.
In the chase, Auckland Aces needed to start well if they wanted to chase the total down. Instead, they had lost two wickets by the time they scored 50 runs. William and Robert O'Donnell joined hands to stitch together a brilliant partnership of 103 runs for the third wicket, which brought them back in the game, but as soon as the partnership broke, it seemed as if the floodgates had been opened. They kept losing wickets and soon were bowled out for 240, losing the game by 42 runs.
