Preview

Afghanistan A will lock horns with Bangladesh A in the 9th match of the ACC Men’s Emerging Cup 2023 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on July 18. Afghanistan have played two matches so far where they have won both and lead the table in Group A. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have played two matches as well but have won and lost a match each. They are placed in second position in Group A.

Afghanistan A had squared off against Sri Lanka A in their last match, where Sri Lanka A won the toss and elected to field. Being put to bat, Afghanistan had lost a wicket early, but a fabulous second-wicket partnership brought them back into the game. It was further strengthened by the third-wicket partnership and they posted a good total of 252 runs on the board. Sri Lanka did not start well and went further worse as overs passed by. They were down to seven wickets by the time they scored 102 runs, but that is when Minod Bhanuka started playing a counter-attacking innings, scoring a brilliant century, but the team was bundled out for 241. Hence, Afghanistan won the match by 11 runs.

Bangladesh A had played against Oman A in their last match, where Bangladesh A had won the toss and elected to field. There was a vast gap between the two teams, which was evident in the match. Oman had a horrible start which they could never recover from, and were bundled out at a mere total of 126 runs. Several of their batters had got starts and had scores in 20s, but none of them were able to take it forward. Bangladesh had no problems in chasing the total, and it required them just 16 overs to do so. Bangladesh A had won the match by eight wickets.
