Preview

Bangladesh will lock horns with Afghanistan in the first T20I match of the Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on July 14. Afghanistan were the winner of the recently concluded ODI series between the two teams by a margin of 2-1 and would like to match the same results in the T20I series as well. Bangladesh, on the other hand, would like to change the results with the change in format and would be keen to start well.

Bangladesh had last squared off against Ireland in this format where Bangladesh had won the toss and had elected to bat, but it turned out that it was only the toss that they could manage to win in the whole match. They did not start well, worsened by a regular flow of wickets. The sole good performer from their side was Shamim Hossain, who scored a fifty, and due to his innings, Bangladesh managed to score 124 runs. It was never going to be a daunting task for Ireland, especially after their captain, Paul Stirling, played a fantastic knock of 77 runs. They lost just three wickets in the process and won the match by seven wickets with six overs to spare.

Afghanistan had last played against Pakistan in the T20I format, where the toss was won by Afghanistan, who had elected to field. Pakistan lost a wicket early but went cautiously after losing the first wicket. Their middle order scored decently and contributed well to the score, where Saim Ayub missed out on his fifty by just one run. Owing to some good finishes towards the end, Pakistan posted a good total of 182 runs on the board. Afghanistan had started decently, but once they lost their opening wicket, they lost wickets regularly. As a result, they were bowled out for a score of 116, and Pakistan emerged victorious by a margin of 66 runs.
