Bangladesh will lock horns with Afghanistan in the only Test Match of the Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh 2023 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from June 14. Bangladesh doesn’t seem to be in good recent form in this format, as they have lost four of their last five matches. Afghanistan, on the other hand, have been playing well and have won three of their last five matches.
Bangladesh had played against Ireland in their last encounter, where Ireland won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat, they did not start well, and other than Harry Tector, no one played well and, as a result, were bowled out for 214. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib held the fort for Bangladesh, which helped them post a good total of 369 runs and have a huge first innings lead of 155 runs. Ireland batters showed much greater resolve this time, and some good knocks helped them post 292 runs on the board. Bangladesh were given a total of 138 runs to chase, which they did so easily and won the match by seven wickets.
Afghanistan had squared off against Zimbabwe in their last match, where Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat. Afghanistan was brilliant with the bat as they posted 545 runs at the loss of four wickets, including a century and a double century. They declared their innings, while Zimbabwe were able to score 287 runs in the second innings. Several of their batters played well and contributed significantly; however, they were asked to follow on, and this time around, they played better and scored 365 runs. Sean Williams scored a brilliant century, but it went in vain as Afghanistan were given a target of 108 runs which they easily chased and won by six wickets.
