Preview
Brno will lock horns with Helsinki Titans in the 6th match of Group D of the European Cricket League 2023 at the Cartama Oval on March 9. Brno have played one game only so far, which they lost and are languishing at the bottom of the table. Helsinki Titans have lost the only match that they have played and are third in the standings.
Brno went on against Dreux in their last match, where Dreux won the toss and elected to bat. Dreux got a superb start as their openers flourished, and other batters also contributed. Opener Ahmad Nabi was their top scorer, having amassed 41 off just 20 balls at a strike rate of over 205. Sandeep Tiwari scalped three, the most number of wickets for the team. They posted a healthy total of 113 for the loss of six wickets. In return, Brno never got the start they would have hoped for to chase down this total. Only two of their batters could make a double-digit score, and as a result, they fell short of the target by 49 runs, and Dreux won the match pretty easily.
Helsinki Titans also squared off against Dreux in their last encounter, where Dreux won the toss and elected to bowl this time. The Titans got a mixed start, with some of their players firing and some missing. Some of them scored at a brisk pace which helped the Titans score at a healthy run rate. Khalid Mangal scored 31 off just 16 balls at a strike rate of 193.75 and was the top scorer for the Titans. They eventually put up a total of 105 runs for the loss of seven wickets by the end of the first innings. Dreux, in return, did not start well and lost both their openers early, but Mohammad Nisar and Usman Khan, who came in next, kept the match from slipping away from there. Nisar played a captain’s knock and scored a brilliant unbeaten half-century. They did not lose any wickets further and chased the target with six balls to spare. Dreux won the match with eight wickets in hand.
