Botswana will be up against Malawi in the 3rd Place Play-off Match of the Africa Cricket Association Cup at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on December 19. Botswana won just one game from the three games they played in the league stage and finished in second place in Group B. Malawi, on the other hand, won two of their three matches in the league stage and finished in second position in Group A.
Botswana had squared off against Uganda in their last game, where Uganda had won the toss and elected to field. It was not a match they would like to remember for long. After a decent opening stand of 20 runs, they just failed to have another significant partnership, losing wickets one after the other, and were bowled out for just 62. Uganda, on the other hand, reached the target like it was a walk in the park for them. They did not lose even one wicket in the process and won within just five overs of the innings.
Malawi played against Kenya in their last encounter, where Kenya won the toss and elected to bat. On a rather slow surface to bat, Kenya started rather aggressively and scored 32 runs in the first four overs. However, once the opening partnership broke, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Neil Mugabe top scored in the innings with an unbeaten half-century, due to which they posted a total of 138 runs. Due to persistent rain, the match was reduced to five overs a side, with the new target being 44 runs. Kenyan bowlers did a good job in the last two overs to pull back the game and won by just four runs.
