Preview

Canterbury will lock horns with Otago Volts in the preliminary match of the Ford Trophy at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown on February 17. Canterbury finished the league stage with four wins and losses each after playing ten matches and were second in the points table. On the other hand, Otago had the same results, but they finished a place below their opposition due to less net run rate.

Canterbury faced Auckland in their last match, where Auckland won the toss and elected to field. Canterbury started brilliantly well but got completely derailed once their set openers got out. No one could follow afterward, and only three batters could make a double digit score. Canterbury were bundled out for just 131. It seemed the pitch was tricky, and Auckland would face trouble too, but nothing of that sort happened, and they chased down the score pretty easily and won the match by seven wickets with 166 balls to spare.

Otago faced Northern Districts in their last game, where Otago won the toss and elected to field. Batting first, Districts started decently but couldn’t make it to the big score and could only muster 240. Otago, when returned with the bat, Hamish Rutherford took the match by storm on his own and remained not out till the end. Otago easily chased the target and won the game by seven wickets with 74 balls to spare.
