Preview
The eighth game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 will see Royal Challengers Bengaluru lock horns against home side Chennai Super Kings in what could be a spin-friendly track at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai, on Friday. The two powerhouse sides meet in this epic clash, with a win in their respective opening encounters.
CSK would like to extend domination on their home turf, as they did by beating arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in their opener despite some hiccups. In addition to this, Chennai have dominated RCB in Chepauk by not letting them taste victory since 2008, with spinners dominating proceedings predominantly.
However, the challenge won't be as daunting for RCB if they can replicate opening game acts when opening duo Phil Salt and Virat Kohli got a special liking to one of the current best spinners Varun Chakravarthy. Skipper Rajat Patidar also played a devastating cameo in his captaincy debut for Bangalore.
How RCB's overseas batters fare will be fascinating to see in one of the most spin-friendly decks. However, they could swap Liam Livingstone for Jacob Bethell to use the conditions to good effect. Krunal Pandya picked three key wickets, which broke the back of KKR's batting in the last match, and was given the Player of the Match award for his efforts. Suyash Sharma had a night to forget with a dropped catch in the first over as well as being smashed for 47 runs but ended his spell with the wicket of Andre Russell.
On the other hand, the home team would be well aware of its battle-hardened win that could have been a facile one. While Rachin Ravindra (65*) and Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (53) looked composed, the middle-order muddle made an arduous chase with baffling shot selections.
On the bowling front, Chennai Super Kings will bank on Noor Ahmad's brilliance once again after his four-wicket haul in the last game versus Mumbai Indians. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will also want to be in the wickets column with an almost guaranteed economical spell. Khaleel Ahmed's opening burst (3/29) bodes well for CSK.
