Preview
Dindigul Dragons will lock horns with Nellai Royal Kings in the second qualifier match of the TNPL 2023 at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli on July 10. Dindigul Dragons have won six of their seven matches and finished in second position in the rankings. Nellai Royal Kings, on the other hand, won five of their seven matches and were third at the end of the league stage.
Dindigul Dragons had played against Lyca Kovai Kings in their last match, where Dindigul Dragons won the toss and elected to field. Kings started well, scoring at a fantastic pace but lost two wickets in quick succession, which could have hurt them, but a brilliant third-wicket partnership put them up in the driving seat. They finished with a huge total of 193 runs for the loss of seven wickets on board. The Dragons were slow in their approach and kept losing wickets regularly as well. Sarath Kumar did try and score some important runs, but it proved to be too little too late as Kings won the match by 30 runs.
Nellai Royal Kings had squared off against Siechem Madurai Panthers in their last match, where Panthers won the toss and elected to bowl. Kings lost two wickets early in their innings but had a couple of great partnerships to pull things back, with Guruswamy Ajitesh and Nidhish Rajagopal scoring half-centuries each. Kings had put up a strong total of 211 runs on the board. Panthers lost a wicket early but had no setbacks other than that and were prancing towards their target. It felt like the chase would be possible, but some wonderful bowling toward the end pulled the very closely fought game towards Kings as they won by just four runs.
