Preview

Durham will lock horns with Worcestershire in the fourth match of the English One Day Cup 2023 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on August 1. This is going to be the first match for both teams in this tournament. They would be looking forward to finding their team balance and gaining early momentum in the tournament.

Durham had squared off against Leicestershire in their last encounter, where Leicestershire won the toss, and they elected to field. Durham did not start well, losing their first wicket on just the score of one run. The middle order could not do much as well, but surprisingly their lower order took responsibility, and the majority of the runs were scored by them, taking the team’s total to 197. Leicestershire followed the footsteps of their opponents and were going ahead somewhat similarly. Rishi Patel and Arron Lilley scored half-centuries each, which proved to be the difference between the two sides, and Leicestershire won the match by two wickets.

Worcestershire had played against Glamorgan in their last match, where Worcestershire had won the toss and decided to field. Being put to bat, Glamorgan lost two early wickets, but their opener Sam Northeast was looking in great touch. He stitched together great partnerships with first Kiran Carlson and then Billy Root, which helped them put up a mammoth total of 356 runs on the board. Worcestershire did not have any one player who played a huge innings, but several players who made significant contributions. They kept losing wickets regularly, which hurt them in the end, as they lost nine wickets and fell short of the target by 19 runs.
