Preview

England will be up against Australia in the 5th Test match of the Ashes at the Kennington Oval in London on July 23. Australia have been leading the series and would be returning home with the urn, no matter what the result of this match comes out. England, on the other hand, after losing the urn, would not be willing to lose the series as well and would be looking forward to winning this match.

The last match between the two teams was played at the Old Trafford in Manchester where the toss was won by England and they elected to field. Australia started decently although they lost Khwaja early. Their middle order scored the majority of the runs for the team, and Australia posted a good total of 317 runs. England, in reply, completely outbatted Australia with multiple contributions from multiple batters, with Zak Crawley leading the attack with his knock of 189. Bairstow missed out on his century, but England managed to post a huge total of 592 on board with a huge lead of 275.

Australia needed to start well to overcome the first innings deficit but unfortunately could not do so. They were reduced to four for 108 with almost all of their leading scorers back in the hut, but then Marnus Labuschagne took charge and scored a fantastic century. Mitchell Marsh and Labuschagne stitched together a good partnership and passed through the fourth day. The match could easily have been a win for England, but the fifth day got completely washed out and extinguished the chances for England to bring back the urn home. The match ended in a draw.
