England will lock horns with Ireland in the only test match of the Ireland tour of England 2023 at the Lord’s in London from June 1. England have won four of their last five test matches and seem to be in good form. They are ranked third in the ICC Test Rankings. Ireland don’t look to be in too good of a form where they have lost all five of their last five test matches. They have not played enough test matches to be ranked in the ICC Test Rankings.
England had played against New Zealand in their last match where the toss was won by New Zealand and they chose to field. England’s innings did not start too well but centuries from Joe Root and Harry Brook put them up in driving position. They posted 435 runs at the loss of eight wickets where in reply New Zealand were nowhere near and were bundled out for 209. England gave them a follow on, a decision which was proven highly costly later as New Zealand batted brilliantly in the third innings and posted 483 runs on the board. This was a match to be remembered for a long time as it went to the very last moment. New Zealand emerged victorious in the end by the smallest margin of one run.
Ireland squared off against Sri Lanka in their last encounter where Ireland won the toss and elected to bat. Ireland’s top order could not make an impact as they had lost three wickets at the score of 89 but the middle order rose up to the occasion. With two centuries and two half centuries, Ireland made a huge score of 492 runs but their happiness was put to flames as soon as Sri Lanka’s innings started. Every Lankan batter scored runs who got the chance to bat and there were two centuries and double centuries each from their top four batters which helped Sri Lanka put up a huge total of 704 runs, after which they declared their innings. Ireland were wrapped up for a score of 202 runs in the third innings and so Sri Lanka won the match by an innings and 10 runs.
