Preview
England Women will lock horns with Pakistan Women in the 19th match of Group 2 of the ICC Women’s World Cup at Newlands in Cape Town on February 21. England have already won all three games they have played and are in brilliant form. They are placed at the top of the table in Group 2. On the other hand, Pakistan have won one of their three matches and are placed in the fourth position in Group 2.
England played their last game against India, where they lost the toss and were put to bat. They did not have too good a start due to early wickets but were saved by Nat Sciver-Brunt and other middle-order batters. They posted a healthy total of 151 for the loss of seven wickets, where Renuka Singh was the pick of the bowlers, picking up a five-wicket haul. Indian batters, especially Mandhana, started well, but wickets kept plundering from the other end, and eventually, India fell short by 11 runs.
Pakistan squared off against West Indies in their last match, where West Indies won the toss and elected to bat. West Indies started well and kept the scoreboard ticking, though they were a little slow. Soon they started losing wickets at regular intervals and finished up with 116 at the expense of six wickets after the end of 20 overs. Pakistan had hoped to finish the match quickly, but initial wickets kept the run rate in check, and eventually, Pakistan were three runs short at the end of their innings.
