Preview
On Saturday (May 13), Fujairah and Sharjah will clash in the semi-final match of the Emirates D50 2023 at the Malek Cricket Stadium 2 in Abu Dhabi. Having secured victories in four out of five games, Fujairah claimed the second spot in the points table during the league stage. On the other hand, Sharjah won three out of five matches and occupied the third position in the points tally. The winner of this high-stakes encounter will advance to the tournament final on Sunday, where they will face off against Ajman.
In their previous encounter, Fujairah opted to bat first after winning the toss against Abu Dhabi. However, they encountered a slow start, losing three wickets before the 12th over. Asif Khan and Muhammad Usman provided stability with a 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket, taking the team past the 100-run mark. Usman continued his fine form, adding 38 more runs alongside Zubair Zuhaib for the fifth wicket. Unfortunately, Fujairah faltered after Usman's dismissal, losing their last five wickets for just 31 runs. They managed to reach a total of 202 runs before being bowled out in 44.5 overs.
In response, Abu Dhabi faced similar trouble, losing three wickets before completing the 10th over. Middle-order batters Riyan Mohammed and Shehan Dilshan provided some resistance with an 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Abu Dhabi's fortunes took a downturn when they lost the fourth wicket in the 26th over, and they subsequently lost all their wickets within the next six overs. They could only muster 137 runs, succumbing to a 65-run defeat in the match.
In their previous match against Dubai, Sharjah were put into bat after losing the toss. Openers Khalid Shah and Usman Khan laid a solid foundation for the team, adding 97 runs for the first wicket. Khalid contributed 60 runs off 37 deliveries before being dismissed in the 13th over. However, the subsequent batters failed to make significant contributions, with only four players reaching double-digit scores. Sharjah's innings concluded in 49.3 overs with a total of 353 runs on the board. The standout performer was Usman, who recorded his maiden double century, amassing an impressive 204 runs off 148 balls, including 20 fours and 10 sixes. Dubai's bowling attack saw Nilansh Keswani claiming four wickets for 76 runs in ten overs, while Aryan Lakra secured three wickets for 71 runs in 7.3 overs.
Chasing a daunting target, Dubai faced a major setback as they lost half of their players before completing the 10th over. However, wicketkeeper-batter Safeer Tariq emerged as the lone warrior, scoring 84 runs off 91 deliveries. Despite Tariq's efforts, Dubai's innings concluded at 155 runs in 37.3 overs, resulting in a resounding defeat by a significant margin of 198 runs for Dubai.
