Preview
Hampshire will lock horns with Surrey in the 30th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on May 31. Hampshire have played two matches where they have won and lost a match each and are placed at the eighth position in the rankings of South Group. Surrey, on the other hand, have played three matches where they have won two and are placed second in the standings of South Group.
Hampshire had played against Middlesex in their last match where the toss was won by Hampshire and they chose to field. Middlesex had a decent start which was levelled up by a fantastic second wicket partnership where the key role was played by Pieter Malan who scored 80 off 45. The middle order could not contribute at all once he was gone and the whole team was sent packing for a score of 171. Hampshire, in return, started much stronger with an opening partnership of 91 runs. The scoring rate did not come down even after losing another wicket. As a result, Hampshire won the match by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Surrey squared off against Sussex in their last encounter where Sussex won the toss and elected to field. Surrey started decently with not too high a scoring rate but were losing wickets regularly. They had a good fourth wicket partnership of 53 runs for the fourth wicket but once it was broken, it was like a game of dominos. They lost wickets in bunches and hence could only make 148 before being bundled out. Sussex were not too different from their counterparts and started slowly as well, losing regular wickets. It was the fifth wicket partnership of 77 runs which put Sussex back on track and in a close encounter Sussex won the match by five wickets on the penultimate ball of the match.
