Preview
Hungary will lock horns with Portugal in the first match of the ECI Hungary T10 at the GB Oval in Szigliget on July 15. Both the teams would be playing for the first time in this tournament and would be keen to win this match and gain early momentum in the tournament.
Hungary had squared off against the Czech Republic in their last match, where Hungary had won the toss and elected to bowl. The Czech Republic made a cautious start, but after the fall of the first wicket, they started being a little more aggressive. This change in approach helped them accumulate runs faster, and they managed to post 169 runs on the board. After a shaky start, Hungary managed to calm its nerves and pulled things back. In an interesting last over, the match got tied and went to the super over, where the Czech Republic emerged victorious.
Portugal had played against Gibraltar in their last encounter, where the toss was won by Gibraltar, who had chosen to bat. Gibraltar did not start well, losing two wickets within the powerplay. The scoring rate remained below par throughout the innings. Louis Bruce played a fantastic knock of 58 at one end, which helped them post a total of 124 runs. Portugal had quite an explosive start but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Suman Ghimire’s knock of 27 runs proved to be the match-winning knock for Portugal as they won the match by just one wicket.
