Preview
India will take on New Zealand in the first semi-final game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Wednesday (November 15) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India finished in first place at the end of the league phase with nine wins in nine games. The Kiwis have qualified for the semi-finals with five wins in nine games.
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in their last game after chasing down the target of 274 runs in 48 overs. Virat Kohli scored 95 runs off 104 deliveries in that game, while Mohammad Shami took a fifer.
India defeated the Netherlands in their last outing by a huge margin of 160 runs after posting a total of 410 runs on the board. The top five made more than 50 runs each for India, which happened for the first time in a World Cup game. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul went on to score their respective centuries.
New Zealand chased down a mere target of 172 runs in 23.2 overs in their last game against Sri Lanka. Tren Boult was the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis, with three wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. Devon Conway finished as the highest run-scorer for the team with 45 runs off 42 deliveries.
New Zealand last won an ODI game against India in India back in 2017 by six wickets on the back of a century from Tom Latham. It was Latham’s first ODI century against India. Also, this was the first time India and New Zealand played an ODI game at the Wankhede, the same venue where the semi-final game will be played.
