Preview
India and South Africa will play the third and the last game of the three-match ODI series on Tuesday (October 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. India lost the first game and bounced back in the last one to level the series. Both teams will have different motives going into this game. For South Africa, the place in the ODI World Cup 2023 is at stake and they need to win this game to directly qualify for the tournament. The Indian players will want to win this series so as to put their name in the hat for the upcoming matches as well as the next ODI World Cup.
India won the second ODI by seven wickets in Ranchi after chasing the target of 279 runs in 45.5 overs. Shreyas Iyer won the Player of the Match award for scoring the second century of his ODI career. South Africa posted such a challenging total on the back of half-centuries from Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram. The lower-middle order also did a fine job to help the team post this total. India had a poor start as both the openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill were dismissed before the completion of the power play. Ishan Kishan and Iyer added 161 runs for the third wicket and Kishan missed on scoring a well-deserved century as he was dismissed for 93 runs. Sanju Samson provided the finishing touch to the innings as he scored 30 runs off 36 deliveries and Iyer remained unbeaten on 113 runs off 111 deliveries.
