Preview
India will be up against Sri Lanka in the 5th match of the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premdasa Stadium in Colombo on September 17. India played three games in the Super Four stage where they were able to win two and finished at the top of the table. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had a similar record but due to a poorer net run rate finished in the second position.
India had squared off against Bangladesh in their last match, where India won the toss and elected to bowl. The match being a dead rubber, both these teams decided to experiment and test their bench strength. With good knocks from Shakib, Hridoy, and Nasum, Bangladesh posted a strong total of 265 runs. India did not start well, losing their opener and captain right in the first over. Shubhman’s and Axar’s wickets proved to be the match-defining difference between the two teams as Bangladesh won the match by just six runs.
Sri Lanka had played against Pakistan in their last match where Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan lost a wicket early but had a fantastic second-wicket partnership as well. Half-centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan propelled Pakistan towards a better position than they were in and garnered a total of 252 runs on the board. Sri Lanka were brilliant right from the start and it seemed an easy win for Sri Lanka but the twists were left for the end. They kept losing wickets towards the end but somehow were able to keep their calm and won the match by just two wickets.
