Preview
Ireland will be up against India in the 2nd T20I match of the India Tour of Ireland at Malahide in Dublin on August 20. The first match of the series was won by India, although not as convincingly as they would have liked to because they did not even get to complete the game due to the interruptions from the rain.
These teams had squared off against each other at the same venue in their last game, where India, who elected to field, won the toss. Ireland did not start well, with their opening stand lasting for just four runs. The second wicket was lost on the same score again, and the Irish team looked in trouble. The inning was sent through another mini collapse by losing three wickets in four runs. Barry McCarthy played a superb knock down the order, which saved the team, and Ireland were able to put up a decent total of 139 runs on the board.
After getting a decent total to chase, the India team made a rather good start, where the opening partnership lasted for 46 runs in six overs. India lost two wickets in quick succession as the in-form batter Tilak Varma was sent back to the pavilion on the very first ball of his innings. India seemed to be in a bit of a bothersome situation when the game was interrupted by the rain. The game could not be resumed after that, and by the Duckworth Lewis method, India was declared the winner of the match by two runs. Returning Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance.
