Preview

Ireland Women will take on Sri Lanka Women in the second ODI of the three-match series. The series is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, the qualification pathway for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup. Ireland are in 10th position with one win in 13 matches, while Sri Lanka are in fifth place with eight wins in 22 games.

In the first match of the series, Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl. Vishmi Gunaratne’s 101 runs off 98 deliveries helped Sri Lanka reach a total of 260 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Hasini Perera was the only other batter who scored more than 20 runs and finished with 46 runs off 72 deliveries. Orla Prendergast was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland and picked three wickets for 25 runs in eight overs.

Prendergast came out all guns blazing with the bat as well and remained unbeaten on 122 runs off 107 deliveries. Her knock helped Ireland reach the target of 261 runs in 49.2 overs with three wickets in hand. Prendergast had a historical outing and became the first woman batter to score a century, take three wickets, and pick two catches in an ODI match. It was the second-highest individual score for Ireland in ODIs. It was Ireland’s first win over Sri Lanka in ODIs and in this cycle of ICC Women’s Championship.
