Preview
Junior Champions will lock horns with Pamir Legends in the 8th match of the Afghanistan One-Day Cup 2023 at the Khost Cricket Stadium in Khost on May 9. Junior Champions have played a total of three matches where they are yet to win any and are languishing at the bottom of the table. Pamir Legends, on the other hand, have played and won all three matches in this tournament. They are sitting comfortably at the top of the table.
Junior Champions played against Hindokush Strikers in their last encounter, where Junior Champions won the toss and elected to bowl. Strikers were off to a brilliant start with an opening partnership of 83 runs at a fantastic rate. In the middle overs, they got a little shaky, but Abdul Rahman down the order pulled things back up, and as a result, they were able to put up a good total of 260 runs for the loss of eight wickets on the board. Champions were batting and chasing the total on a different pitch altogether. Not a single significant partnership was formed, and wickets went down regularly. They could only make 98 runs before getting bundled out and lost the match by a huge margin of 162 runs.
Pamir Legends squared off against Maiwand Defenders in their last match, where Maiwand Defenders won the toss, and they chose to bat. Defenders got a brilliant headstart as they amassed 115 runs for the first wicket partnership within 20 overs. Both the openers got to their respective half-centuries, and then a brilliant finish by Omarzai towards the end meant Defenders could make 253 runs. Legends did not start well and lost their opener on a duck, but Zazai held the fort at one end, and his brilliant century took his team home. Legends won the match by seven wickets with more than 15 overs to spare.
