Karachi Kings will face Islamabad United in the fourth game of the Pakistan Super League 2023 on Thursday (February 16) at the National Stadium in Karachi. Karachi Kings lost their opening game against Peshawar Zalmi by two runs while chasing a target of 200 runs on Tuesday. The Zalmi reached a total of 199 runs with the help of half-centuries from Babar Azam and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Cadmore scored 92 runs off 50 deliveries and won the Player of the Match award. Kings lost four wickets for just 46 runs before the 7th over was completed. Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim added 131 runs for the fifth wicket and helped the team reach near the target. Malik was dismissed in the penultimate over, and then Kings required 16 runs off the last six deliveries. Imad remained not out but managed to collect only 13 runs.
Islamabad United won just four out of ten games last season and managed to qualify for the playoffs due to a higher net run rate. They defeated the Kings twice last season, and the other two wins came against Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. They lost the second eliminator game against Lahore Qalandars, which marked their exit. The United have retained almost all the players from last season and have added some key players. Moeen Ali will join the side in the later part of the tournament, while Rassie van der Dussen has been signed as his replacement. Abrar Ahmed, who had a great Test debut against England last year, is also a part of the squad.
