Preview
Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the Indian Premier League. This match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 74 matches will be played across 13 cities over the next two months as the IPL fever kicks off. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be played in Hyderabad on May 20 and 21, respectively. Qualifier 2, on May 23, and the final, on May 25, will be in Kolkata.
Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders will be led by Ajinkya Rahane. They have let go of Shreyas Iyer, Mitch Starc, and Phil Salt from the previous season. They have managed to retain the rest of them and have made some good signings. They were one of the most dominating teams with both bat and ball last season and there will be lots of expectations from them this year.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru again retained just three players and went for a fully new squad ahead of the season. Rajat Patidar will captain the side and they have added some English firepower with the likes of Livingstone, Salt and Bethell. Virat Kohli will open the batting with Salt with Patidar to follow. Jitesh Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya are some of the domestic buys from the auction. They will be looking to get thier maiden IPL Title. This promises to be a thrilling match.
