Preview
Luxembourg will lock horns with Switzerland in the fifth match of the Valletta Cup at the Marsa Sports Club in Marsa on July 14. Luxembourg have played one match so far, which they were unable to win and are fourth in the standings. Switzerland have won the only match they have played so far and are in the second position.
Luxembourg had squared off against Malta in their last match, where Malta had won the toss and elected to bowl. Luxembourg did not start well, losing two wickets within the first two overs scoring just five runs. But they had fantastic third and fourth wicket partnerships which brought them back into the game, and they were able to put up a good score of 174 on the board. Malta started decently, scoring at a good pace. They upped their ante further in the middle overs, which put them into the driver’s seat, and so had no problems with the chase whatsoever. Malta won the match by six wickets.
Switzerland had played against Romania in their last encounter, where the toss was won by Switzerland, who had chosen to bowl. Romania were a little cautious but scored well with a half-century opening partnership. But after the first wicket fell, they slowed down rather steeply. Scoring just 84 runs in the next 14 overs, they were able to put up just 134 runs on the board after the end of the first innings. Switzerland lost two wickets in a rather quick succession, but their opener Faheem Nazir stood his ground at one end, scoring 77 and did not stop until he had won his team the game. Switzerland won the match by six wickets as well.
