Preview

Nigeria will be up against Rwanda in the 1st match of the West Africa T20I Trophy at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos on October 4. Both these countries have been in a completely different form when it comes to this format of the game. Nigeria has won all their last five games, while Rwanda has failed to win any of their last five games.

Nigeria squared off against Ghana in their last match, where Ghana won the toss and elected to bat. Ghana started off on the wrong foot, losing both their openers cheaply, but their middle order came to their rescue and had a couple of healthy partnerships. By the end of the innings, they ended up with a total of 127 runs. Nigeria did not start well with the chase, losing their first wicket early, but a fabulous partnership for the second wicket not only brought them back in the game but won the match by six wickets.

Rwanda had squared off against Tanzania in their last match, where Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat. The decision did not seem like a good idea when they lost their first wicket early, but the second wicket partnership worth 97 runs turned the game around. With the help of a good finish towards the end, they were able to post a strong total of 179 runs on the board. Rwanda, in reply, started off well with several of their batters getting starts, but when none of them were able to get to a good total, it got to be a problem as they were bowled out for 130 and lost the match by 49 runs.
