Preview

Nellai Royal Kings is set to fight with Chepauk Super Gillies in the 14th match of Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 at the Salem Cricket Foundation Stadium in Salem on June 24. NRK stand third, having won three out of the four matches so far, whereas CSG are in the fourth position in the points table, having won two matches out of four.

Nellai Royal Kings encountered Salem Spartans in their last match. Kings won the toss and elected to field. The bowlers managed to keep the run rate slow, as a result of which the top order of Spartans collapsed very quickly, but the middle order tried to cover up for them. The rain interrupted the play, and the match was reduced to 16 overs. With Spartans making 115 runs in 16 overs, the new target for Kings, according to DLS, was 129 runs in 16 overs. Coming to bat, the middle order took up the job and took their team to the win after the debacle of the opening pair. G Ajitesh (39) and L Suryaprakash (32) were the top scorers. The team won by five wickets with two balls remaining.

Chepauk Super Gillies last played against Dindigul Dragons, where Gillies lost the match by a mere margin of one run. Gillies won the toss and chose to field. The opening by Rahul and Shivam Singh was decent, scoring 20 runs and 21 runs, respectively. The knocks by Aditya Ganesh (44), S Bhati (31) and S Kumar (31) further helped the team give a total of 170 runs. Gillies’ bowlers worked very well and ensured the fall of wickets was regular while keeping the score in check. When Gillies came to bat, B Aparajith hit a brilliant knock of 74 runs in just 40 balls. However, the wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Supported by the skipper N Jagdeesan (37) and others, the team came very close but fell short of just one run and lost the match in the nail-biter climax.
