Preview

New Zealand will be up against Afghanistan in the 16th match of the ODI Cricket World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 18. New Zealand have dominated the proceedings so far, winning both their matches and sitting in second position, while Afghanistan have won one game from their three so far and is sixth in the rankings.

New Zealand played against Bangladesh in their last match, where New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl. Bangladesh did not start well, losing their first wicket on the very first ball. It was the experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan who scored important runs after the failure of the top order. They were only able to post 245 runs on the board. New Zealand lost an early wicket as well but had two brilliant partnerships back to back, due to which they easily cruised ahead to win the match by eight wickets.

Afghanistan squared off against England in their last match, where England won the toss and elected to field. Afghanistan was off to a fantastic start, where Gurbaz dominated the proceedings with his knock of 80. They quite lost their way in the middle overs, but they finished well towards the end and ended up with 284 runs on the board. England did not start the way they would have wished for, as they lost their first wicket early and just kept losing one after the other. The inability to form partnerships led them to lose the match by 69 runs.
