Preview

New Zealand will be up against Pakistan in the 5th T20I of the Pakistan tour of New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on January 21. This series has been a one-sided affair with all four matches being won by the Kiwis while Pakistan has been struggling to win even one. New Zealand would be keen on winning this match and make a clean sweep of the series.

The last match between the two teams, which was the fourth game of the series was played at the same venue where New Zealand won the toss and elected to field. Pakistan did not start well with the bat, losing Saim Ayub early. However, the partnership between Babar and Rizwan solidified their position. They lost a couple of wickets in the middle overs, but Mohammed Rizwan at one end kept going and was the lone spark for the Pakistani batting line-up. With his unbeaten 90, Pakistan were able to post a total of 158 runs on the board.

As the Kiwi batters came out for the chase, Pakistani captain, Shaheen Afridi took matters into his own hands and bowled some classic swing bowling. After being hit for consecutive boundaries, he went on to scalp Finn Allen, then Tim Seifert and then Will Young as well. New Zealand looked in deep trouble and that is when the experienced duo of Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell calmed the storm for them and built together a stable partnership. After spending some time on the pitch, they started slamming the bowlers around and led the team to win the game by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare.
