Preview
New Zealand (NZ) will clash against Sri Lanka (SL) in the second T20I match at Dunedin's University Oval on March 5. Sri Lanka won the first T20I game to take a 0-1 lead in the three-match away series after losing Tests and ODIs. The returning veteran Kusal Perera scored an unbeaten 53, and Charith Asalanka ended his poor form by smashing 67 off 41 to help Sri Lanka score 196/5 while batting first. The experienced all-rounder James Neesham took two wickets, while debutant Henry Shipley bagged one on his T20I debut.
Sri Lankan bowlers started well with two early wickets, but in-form Daryl Mitchell smashed 66 0ff 44, and Mark Chapman added 33 runs to level the score in 20 overs. New Zealand scored just eight runs in the Super Over, and then Asalanka smashed one six and four to win the game with four balls to spare. Despite a defeat, the Kiwis remain favourites to win the upcoming game with three wins from the last five T20I encounters against the Sri Lankan team.
