Preview

New Zealand Women will face Pakistan Women in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series on Friday (December 15) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. New Zealand won the first game of the series by a huge margin of 131 runs.

Pakistan won the toss in the first ODI and elected to bowl. New Zealand’s top order had a great outing, and the top four scored more than 50 runs. Suzie Bates, particularly, delivered a brilliant knock and scored her first century in ODIs this year. She was dismissed after scoring 108 runs off 104 deliveries. New Zealand posted a total of 365 runs for the loss of four wickets at the end of the 50th over mark. Fatima Sana, Nashra Sandhu, and Umm-e-Hani took one wicket each for Pakistan.

Skipper Nida Dar was hit on her head while she was bowling the 44th over of the innings. She was checked by the team physio and was taken off the field. Sadaf Shamas came as a replacement for Dar. Diana Baig was already ruled out of the series after she suffered a horizontal fracture in the right index finger while fielding in a practice session.

Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen provided a solid start to the team. They added 110 runs for the first wicket before Muneeba was dismissed. She made 44 runs off 48 deliveries. However, the other batters completely failed to capitalize on the momentum. Ameen went on to score a century and was run out after making 105 runs off 116 deliveries. No other batter managed to cross the 20-run mark for the team. Pakistan were ultimately bundled out for 234 runs on the penultimate delivery of their innings.

Amelia Kerr starred with the ball and took three wickets for 44 runs in 8.5 overs. Lea Tahuhu picked two, while Jess Kerr, Fran Jonas, Hannah Rowe, and Sophie Devine took one wicket each. Bates was adjudged Player of the Match for her batting performance.
