Preview
Punjab will lock horns with Delhi in the 1st Semifinal match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on November 4. Punjab has been fantastic, winning six of their seven games and finishing at the top of the table in Group C. Delhi finished at the top of the table as well in Group E, where they have won five of their six matches.
Punjab had played off against Uttar Pradesh in their last encounter, where Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl. UP started decently, but as the innings progressed, the scoring rate did not increase, which was increasing the problem for them. They had lost their third wicket just at the score of 53, but a fantastic partnership awaited for them as Sameer Rizvi and Rinku Singh stitched together an unbeaten partnership of 117 runs. They put up a decent total of 169 runs, which seemed to be too much at one point in time as Punjab was struggling at 14 for three. The middle order then took responsibility and scored majestically, winning the match by five wickets.
Delhi had played off against Vidarbha in their last encounter, where Vidarbha won the toss and elected to field. Being put to bat, Delhi started aggressively and amassed 105 runs for the second wicket, scoring at a brilliant rate. Several of their players contributed well and seemed to be in a good position. The middle order, however, did not take the responsibility as would have expected but still managed to put up a total of 176 runs. Vidarbha, in the chase, never seemed to be in the match, really, as they kept losing wickets regularly. They were only able to score 137 and lost the game by 39 runs.
