Preview

The South African side is all set to turn their fortunes against Sri Lanka in the first Test of a two-match series, slated to kick off on November 27 at Kingsmead in Durban. The two teams are in contention for the final of the World Test Championship, with Sri Lanka currently in third and the Proteas close behind it. Both sides aim to register resounding victories to topple India and Australia, currently leading the charts.

The Lanka Lions have a strong record at Kingsmead in Durban, having never lost any Test match. This time, the visitors come with an impressive bowling lineup and momentum of magnificent six wins this year. On the other hand, the Proteas, despite their series win over West Indies and Bangladesh, have struggled in Durban, winning only two Test matches since 2010.

Coming to the team dynamics, the South African side has marked the return of skipper Temba Bavuma, who has recovered from elbow injuries and is set to lead the side. However, Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger have been ruled out due to injuries. Fresh from their thumping 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh, the Proteas will start as favorites against the Islanders. On the other hand, Dhananjaya de Silva and his men head to this series after toppling 2021 WTC winners New Zealand on home turf 2-0, and they have named a strong squad for the upcoming tour.
