The South African side is all set to turn their fortunes against Sri Lanka as the two sides are set to lock horns for the second Test and final match slated to commence from December 5 at St George's Oval, Gqeberha, in Port Elizabeth. The hosts have won the series opener and will be looking to win the second and final Test match to wrap the series against the Lanka Lions to hold the strong spot to make it to the 2025 World Test Championship Finals. On the other hand, Dhananjaya de Silva and his men must be keen to spoil the Proteas party to make it to the WTC final as well as to win this match to avoid a shambolic series defeat.
Coming to the series opener, Temba Bavuma and his men wrapped up a landslide 233-run win over the Islanders to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors were set an improbable 516-run target and started Day 4 in a deep hole at 103/5, making them bundled out for 282 runs. Left-arm quick Marco Jansen, who earlier crushed visitors for a record-low 42 runs, continued his form, claiming four wickets in the second innings to guide his side to a 1-0 lead at Kingsmead in Durban.
With the South African team now sitting at the second spot and just behind Team India in the WTC points table, it will put additional pressure on Team India's chances. The win in this Test match might topple Rohit Sharma and his men, who are currently leading the charts.
