Preview
The first ODI match in the three-match series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan is slated to take place at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. In recent One Day Internationals (ODIs), Sri Lanka hasn't played well, losing four of their past five games against India and New Zealand. They have invited a few experienced players to form a core group ahead of the 2023 world cup. In addition to that, they have to be more consistent in their play, especially the middle order has more work to do.
On the other hand, Afghanistan have qualified directly for the 2023 World Cup, which is to be played in India later this year. The Afghanistan squad appears to be a mix of experienced players and young ones like Abdul Rahman, a medium pacer whose average in batting is 45. The bowling department looks immensely strong. And the participation of Afghan players like Rashid Khan, Gurbaz, Noor Ahmad, and Farooqi in the recently finished IPL will help them build their squads and form strategies to defeat Lankans on their home soil.
