The Galle International Stadium will host the opening Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Asitha Fernando is recovering from dengue sickness, thus the young left-arm bowler Dilshan Madushanka has been added to the squad. The youngster will likely play his first Test against Pakistan. For both teams, this game will serve as the first Test of the next WTC Cycle (2023–25). Pakistan are returning to Sri Lanka after their memorable series that was held one year ago, where they won the opening test of their tour. Additionally, the score was the highest ever registered in Galle. Sri Lanka just defeated Ireland 2-0 at home in April; Pakistan, on the other hand, had a most recent home series against New Zealand that ended in a 0-0 draw.
Karunaratne will serve as the team's captain and opener if he is available, with Nishan Madushka likely beating Pathum Nissanka to the position. Nawaz is a candidate because Pakistan is likely to select the additional spin all-rounder at the expense of a seamer. Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm fast bowler, is expected to make his Test debut, and Sri Lanka has an abundance of spin options. Five Test matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been played since 2017, with two victories for each team and one tie. There is a mix of experience on both sides, with the Galle track naturally favouring the seasoned spinners. As a result, it will be thrilling to watch this contest.
