Sri Lanka will take on Zimbabwe in the third and the final ODI of the ongoing series on Thursday (January 11) at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both teams will feature in a three-match T20I series after the completion of the ODI series. The first match of the series ended in a no result due to rain.
In the second T20I, Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat. They lost their first wicket for just one run on the third delivery of their innings. Joylord Gumbie and Craig Ervine added 60 runs for the second wicket before Gumbie was dismissed for 30 runs off 37 deliveries. Ervine had another partnership of 53 runs for the third wicket with Milton Shumba.
Ryan Burl joined Ervine in the middle after Sikandar Raza was dismissed for one run in the 26th over. The duo added 67 runs for the fifth wicket. Ervine was the fifth batter to get dismissed and he made 82 runs off 102 deliveries. Zimbabwe lost their last five wickets for just 26 runs and were bundled out for 208 runs in 44.4 overs.
Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka and took four wickets for 31 runs in 9.4 overs. Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Vandersay took two wickets each, while Dilshan Madushanka picked one wicket.
Sri Lanka didn’t have a great start to their chase and lost the first four wickets for just 53 runs. Janith Liyanage played a decent role in the middle and had some important partnerships with other batters. He had a partnership of 37 runs for the fifth wicket along with Sahan Arachchige.
Liyanage was dismissed after scoring 95 runs off 127 deliveries and missed on a well-deserved century. Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Vandersay added 39 runs for the ninth wicket and helped Sri Lanka cross the line in the 49 overs. Richard Ngarava shined with the ball and took his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. He took five wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs, including two maiden overs. Liyanage won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.
