Preview
Sri Lanka will be up against Zimbabwe in the 3rd T20I of the Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka at the R Premdasa Stadium in Colombo on January 18. The series is poised evenly between the two teams, and the upcoming game will be the series decider. Hence, the winner of the match will take the trophy home.
The last match between the two teams, which was the second game of the series was played at the same venue where Zimbabwe had won the toss and elected to field. Being put to bat, Sri Lanka did not fare well as they were tottering at four for 27 runs. Their entire top-order was dismissed in scores of single digits, and the team looked in trouble. That is when the experienced pair of Asalanka and Mathews came into play as they put up a partnership worth 118 runs and notched up their individual fifties. This took the team to a good total of 173 runs.
Zimbabwe had a good chase ahead of them and probably a daunting task to beat Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka with a good bowling line-up. They started decently but lost the first wicket for a score of 22. Craig Ervine played a match-defining knock as he smashed 70 runs partnering up with Brian Bennett for the second wicket. Though they lost a little too many wickets in the middle overs and looked in some trouble, the experienced lower middle order of the team saved the day for them. They won the game by four wickets on the penultimate ball of the match.
